Cindy Alter - An International Legend
Who is Cindy Alter? She is a powerhouse artist. There are thousands of great artists in Nashville. Young, old, experienced, and new to the craft. You can go out every night of the week to different venues and hear gifted artists.
But, if you are truly lucky, you will be able to catch Cindy Alter. I met Cindy while producing, mixing, and mastering her album “Renegades and Vagabonds,” and it was a joy to catch up with her recently at Maxwell’s at Millennium.
When she first picked up a guitar at the age of ten, she probably never suspected how that first strum would resonate throughout the musical world. She is originally from South Africa but has traveled the world performing her music and creating content that has rippled through the decades. She has released many great, influential albums.
She just dropped the new duet single with CheraLee, "Be Your Own Hero". This song was written using WhatsApp Video Call. Working through multiple time zones between Nashville and South Africa, they collaborated to create this song. It truly speaks to today.
In a time where people are reeling from the daily assault of war, lies, and misinformation, it is easy to feel worn down and unempowered. Alter and Cheralee remind us, through this song, that “the lies that you were told can stain your souls like ink,” but also encourage us that we can change our story and be our own hero. What a song of encouragement!
Cindy recently stated on the South African show Expresso that her return to Nashville has had a significant impact on her music. "I am infused with writing songs, with a music around me and that it's in the air. You smell it." Alter has stated that Nashville is always challenging her to push herself and up her game.
She not only creates, but she also performs her music. She is constantly working to empower other artists through songwriter rounds at such venues as the Commodore and many others. She routinely appears at venues like the Bluebird.
